Bad Day

My computer is dead, and can't be resurrected. The repairman asked me if it got hit by lightening! The processor, motherboard, and hard drive are GONE!

So, I can't check emails until Verne comes home at night with his company issued laptop, and more importantly, I lost every picture. I wanted to cry. Every picture of Autumn and Jon from the beginning of their relationship until now was on that hard drive. Sigh. Learn from my disaster-back up your files of important things to disc or an external hard drive.

I took Daisy to the vet today, and she's going blind. She's not even two years old! She has cataracts and they're only going to get worse. Poor thing. Oh, and it just now hit me that all of her puppy pictures are on the dead hard drive, too.

    I'm ***so*** sorry, Tracy.

Wish there was something I could say or do that would make it all better. Poor thing.

  2. This is my greatest fear with digital cameras! I have a memory stick that I transfer photos onto ~ so they're on the hard disk and the USB thingy.

I still feel anxious about wiping my camera memory card even after doing both those things!

  3. I am so sorry about your bad day. I will say a little prayer for you.

  4. Oh man! I'm so sorry!

Do take the computer for another opinion. Sometimes the hard drive can be removed and put in another machine and the contents rescued. Not always, but it sure would be worth a try!

At least you have some of those photos here on your blog! You should do a back up of the blog for sure!!!

  5. Oh Tracy, you must feel floored! How frustrating... computers are replacable but photos aren't. Good thing you have posted a few beautiful ones on your blog.

  6. I feel your pain over losing everything on your hard drive. That happened to me and I was "heartbroke". I had everything on mine too.
I learned two important lessons, backup my important info and realize that even though it is bad I lost that info, it in the scheme of things is trivial compared to things of eternal value.

  8. I am SO sorry. I know how you feel. Whitney had her computer stolen not long after James died. Guess what? All of the most recent pictures of him, the two of us, him with the kids, were on THAT computer. She is the photographer in the family and had saved ALL of the pictures from the past several years. I cried like a baby.

We still have our memories, though. I just keep telling myself that...

  12. So sorry to hear about your little doggie and the loss of your pictures. I know that your puppy will learn to cope with no vision, but it will be hard. My mother in law has adopted several blind poodles.

I hope that somehow you are able to get the pictures back. Maybe someone can figure something out.

  13. So So sorry. And now I'm afraid. My computer is going crazy, and ALL of my pictures from my twins being born until now (15 mos.) are on it. I need to take your advice!

  14. Big hugs. You can also upload your pics to flicker or snapfish to back them up. Did you email any of your pictures to friends or family? If so they may be able to resend them to you, or your email server may have your sent messages, which may have the files. Have you checked your memory card in your camera? You may be able to retrieve a few from there. I really would get a second opinion about the computer. It may be possible to recover some data.

I'm also sorry for Daisy. Cuddle her for me.

    Big hugs!

  15. I'm sorry Tracy. My computer crashed about a month ago and it was bad, bad, bad. I had documents from the last 5 years on there that I had *never* backed up. It was a hard lesson for me. I feel for you!

  16. Sorry to hear about your computer. Ours went up the end of December and we had to purchase a new computer. I know how frustrating it can be to lose your pictures.
This is my first visit to your blog, I hope things get better for you.

  22. So sorry to hear that Tracy :o(

I agree with what someone said that it would be worth your while to take the hard drive somewhere for a 2nd opinion *just in case* anything can be rescued ... I've heard that being done sometimes.

  23. (((Tracy))) I am so sorry about your pictures and your dog!
Praying that you are able to recover some pictures from other sources to replace some of them.

  24. DEFINITELY bring your harddrive somewhere else. My husband has saved things from hard drives that melted in HOUSEFIRES.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I too would check around for someone to rivive the harddrive. I've heard of them going thru major burn to the ground fires and the data was retreived.

    hope this helps

  26. You have the pictures you uploaded on your blog. Just left click and choose "Save Picture As", at least then you will have a few. Are any on myspace? You can do they same there.

  27. I'm SO sorry. How awful. I try to back up everything on another hard drive, but I don't do it often enough.
