It's the time of year to start preparing for the winter. Here's what I've put up so far:
- 16 half-pints Strawberry-Lemon Marmalade
- 19 half-pints Triple Berry Jam
- 38 half-pints Strawberry Jam
- 7 half- pints Blueberry-Lime Jam
- 7 half-pints Blueberry Jam
- 8 half-pints Cherry Jam
- 9 half-pints Strawberry Jalapeno Jam
Are you canning yet?
Saturday, Lindsay and I made 9 pints of the best strawberry jam we have ever made! I used the Pamona's Universal pectin and it is fantastic! We used less sugar as usual, but this time it set up perfectly! Yea, Pamona's!
ReplyDeleteWe also blended everything together, usually I just crush the berries, but I have a jam lover who doesn't love 'chunks' of fruit in her jam! This has made it smooth and delicious! She loves it!
Now we need to do much more, and my thinking cap is on as to whether to do mulberries and strawberries together for jam - we have a huge mulberry tree and I hate to see so much fruit go to waste! What do you think?
Not yet, but soon. I usually put up several hundred jars worth of stuff. Time to get cracking!

ReplyDeleteI think mulberries and strawberries would be good together. You could also do straight mulberry.

I put strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries in the triple berry. It's delicious!
So far, all I have been able to harvest from our garden is some onions and broccoli. I'll be blanching and freezing broccoli later this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI've never made jam before, but it is something I'd like to try. There's a U-pick strawberry patch down the road, I'll have to check them out.
I usually do tomatoes, pickles (son ate 20+ quarts over the winter, so I need to double the amount I make this year), and green beans. This is the first year I've had my own garden, so I'm really excited to see what happens with it.
Just finished getting the garden in last week. The only thing we are getting yet is green onions. Lettuce will be ready soon. Strawberries should be ready around here within a couple of weeks I would think if they didn't get hit with the late frosts/freezes.
