Simply Sunday, and Cherry Squares

What a glorious day! We attended Sunday school, and a delightful worship service. Psalm 1 was the scripture text for a wonderful sermon. It went something like this:

Outward conformity to the law is burdensome. Our hearts must be changed by the Spirit so that when the law of God is written on our hearts it becomes a pleasure. We need to continually ask for an opening of our eyes to see the beauty of the law. We need to meditate on God's law both day and night. If we love God's law, it will consume our lives. Thus, it will become natural for us to walk by God's commands. If we do not know God's word, we are much easier deceived by the world. Example:Eve. Your word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee. -Psalm 119:11

If we are planted in God's word we will prosper. Zeal is not enough. We must have an understanding of God's holy word. Good intentions are not enough to get us to our destination. Often when we sin, it is not because we WANT to sin, but because we have not understood what God wants. We often FORGET what Christ has done for us. At least those were the key points... The pastor said it better than me.

After worship, we came home to a quick lunch. After that we headed back out the door to a Boy Scout meeting. Today was Court of Honor, which is a special meeting that happens every few months to recognize the achievements that the boys have made. Mac and Collin were both recognized today. Mac earned the rank of Life Scout. He also earned three merit badges: Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Community, and Family Life.

Collin earned the rank of 2nd Class Scout. He earned three merit badges as well: Citizenship in the Community, Plumbing, and Family Life. He was also named Troop Scribe.

At Court of Honor, refreshments are always served. We brought Cherry Squares to share. They went over well. Here's the recipe:

Cherry Squares

1 cup margarine
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon or orange extract
1 can cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, and beat well. Mix in extracts and flour. Blend well. Grease a 9 x 13 pan. Pour batter into prepared pan. Level batter. Score batter with a butter knife, making 24 squares. On each square, place 3 cherries. The batter will bake up around this. Bake for 38-40 minutes, until set. Let cool. Cut into 24 squares, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. This is a delicious cake-like recipe. You may substitute blueberry pie filling.

Hi Tracy,
We should all hide His word in our hearts. A lot of things would be different in this world.
Congratulations to your sons on their acheivements. Having all girls, I don't have much experience with Boy Scouts. But Austin is coming along! The pictures of the Cherry Squares are making me hungry! Something I haven't felt in a few days.

Hello again.

Congrats to your sons! Isn't scouts wonderful for those reasons of teaching your kids all about self, community and etc. I also like that it is an activity that us as parents can be involved with him and go to all the meetings.

I agree your Cherry Squares look delicious. May I copy the recipe.
