A Bedroom Makeover

When shopping, it takes me a long time to find something that I really love, but then I don't tire of it easily. I shopped for a long time when we moved into this home looking for a comforter or quilt that I liked for my bed. Since bedding is quite expensive, I must love it before I buy it. It's been three years, and I'm finally growing tired of the old bedding.

I not only wanted to change the bedding, but the color scheme. I've never been a big "blue" fan, but recently I have found so many calming shades of this once avoided color, that I am turning a new leaf. So, I knew the shade that I wanted, but finding bedding to actually fit my bed is an entirely different story.

This desk and chair belonged to my great great Grandma Bickert. The desk was purchased at a department store in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. It still has the shipping tag under the center drawer! The chair was used for as long as my grandma can remember in my great great grandma's laundry room.

The mirror above the dresser has been mine since I was a very little girl.
I don't remember NOT having it.
The long mirror is an antique. The mirror is still crystal clear. This was a gift to me from my parents the Christmas before I was married. My mom and I had been shopping in an antique store, and she saw me admiring this piece. She and my dad went back for it later.

Our mattress is very deep. Yes, I know that they make deep mattress bedding, but I don't know who they think they are kidding. Go ahead, open your JC Penney catalog, look at queen bedding, and find the dimensions. Nothing is standard. At this point, I don't even know what standard is! Each bedding set seems to have different measurements from the next one. It's very frustrating.

After MUCH searching, I found a bed in a bag that I fell in love with. I'm thrilled that the measurements actually worked for our bed. I also bought sheers for the window to match. I couldn't believe it, because I found the bedding and the sheers in two different stores, and they match perfectly!

I replaced the painting above the bed with a wreath of Hydrangeas, and made a few things to hang on the wall. I also replaced the shade from the lamp beside the bed. That completed the makeover! It feels very relaxing now.

Grandma gave me a card for Mother's Day that had this beautiful butterfly on it. The background matched my new bedding perfectly.
I disassembled the card, and made two new pictures out of it. Gram was thrilled.

What do you think?

So pretty! I was never a big fan of blue either, but now I've even thought about using it for my bedroom. Maybe there are just prettier shades of blue out there than there used to be?

I love the sayings on the cards you framed.

Your room looks beautiful and very relaxing.

I think it is very soothing. I love blue for a bedroom, especially this lovely shade. So relaxing.

We have always had a blue bedroom until we moved to this house. We are in the woods and the color green just seems natural. I went with a shade of green. And that reminds me that I need to mend my comforter. It has a couple of tiny rips in it.

YOu did a nice job.

But, really, I love what you did with your room, it really turned out nicely, and nice touch with the framed card turned picture:)

What a lovely change!
We are big blue fans around here, especially a certain shade of purple-y blue. We once painted an entire apartment all in various shades of this near-lilac colour and it was gorgeous! If you like blue.

Isn't it amazing how color can completely change a room? I like the blue; it's so tranquil. I especially like the texture of your comforter and bed skirt ~ very pretty! And that pretty Mother's Day card is definitely frame worthy! Great idea and you can't beat the price! :o)

Okay, am I losing it or does your header change pictures? or did I pop in when you where changing pictures? because I could have sworn there was a close-up shot of the center of a purplish lily when I logged onto you site, and now it's a group of orange lilies! Maybe I *am* losing it! Be kind to me ~ I might be going crazy ~ lol!

Very peaceful makeover. I think you will enjoy it.

I have had blue in bedrooms several times. We have some blue in the the room now blue now. I'm thinking of changing it, but haven't settled on a color--that may take some time.
