Baby, You Can Drive My Car (Beep beep, beep beep, yea)

Mac took his driver's permit test today. He passed. I let him drive the entire way home. I'm exhausted.

Actually, he did very well. I know that I shouldn't be prideful, but I couldn't help but feeling proud of myself for being brave enough to hand him the keys.

It was a nice morning, really. He had his braces removed two weeks ago. This morning I took him for his retainer. Then we went shopping. And out to lunch. Just the two of us. I then took him for his test.

As we walked through the parking garage, I handed Mac the keys. He laughed and said, "You're kidding.

I replied, "No."

He chuckled, "You're joking."

"No, really, you are driving home."

"I don't think that I even know how to get home from here."

"I'll tell you how."

"You're crazy. Nobody drives the first day."

"Well, you are."

And truly, he did just fine. I was proud of him.

And Verne let him drive back into town this evening. They are back home safely. Whew!

I let Ashley drive from Lexington to Mt. Vernon on the expressway the other day. She did well, but it is still nerve racking driving with the inexperienced! It was a lovely mother-daughter bonding experience though.

I remember the day when my daughter got her license and I let her drive home.
That's been a few years now and I still sometimes give her driving advice when I'm riding with her. I told her to just wait one day when she has a child driving and she'll understand how I felt. ;-)

Oh, how I have been there! Three times! This is a fun time. Nerve wracking -- and fun! It is somehow much worse AFTER they get the license and you give them the keys to go off on their own. Eeeek. Lots of prayer. But it sounds like he is off to a great start.

Have to begin sometime and what a great way to do it. Your young man sounds so mature and stable you are blessed.

Good Job Mom! Isn't this stage of parenting difficult?? Watching them drive away was when I took up the habit of standing on the front porch praying each time they left home. Ahwwwww...letting go..... Congrats to Mac!!

Good for you being so brave!

I am so thankful that my parents made me drive a lot. It really helped me to get comfortable behind the wheel ~~~ although, my Dad did have quite a few more gray hairs after I started driving :o)

Congrats Mac!
