What I Learned on Vacation

I like the beach, but I love the country. I love the deciduous trees, the unsalted breeze, winding country roads, seeing baby cows frolicking in the fields as I make make my way back from the grocery store, the lush green grass, and the hills. The coast was nice to visit, but I don't want to live there.

I love my cat. Yes, the hair can get annoying, but I really and truly missed him. And he missed me.

Rootbeer tastes excellent in a pilsner glass over crushed ice.

I love desktop computers. I don't really like laptops. From the screen to the mouse, to the way that blogs look, I'll take my desktop. Although I was glad for Verne's work computer while we travelled!

I love my house. It's as close to perfect as I can imagine. If I tried to improve it, I'd probably screw it up.

I love small towns. Cities are great for shopping and such, but I like it where people know each other.

I miss going to worship when I can't attend. Even one Sunday away seems like an eternity. My soul needs to be refreshed by hearing God's word preached.

I am not God, and sometimes a break is good for me. I can't be everything to everyone all the time. Oh, I 'd like to be. Really. I love taking care of people, but it was nice to be taken care of for a change.

I have great children. We had a great time spending every waking minute together. No arguments. Pleases and thank yous. Appreciation for the trip that we took. Where did they come from?

My life has meaning. I knew that it did, but I realize it in a different way. My role as a homemaker has had a significant influence on my husband. He did the cooking and dishes all week. You'd be amazed if you knew my husband when we met. He was a slob. Lovable, but a mess! He's come a long way. I'll elaborate about this in a separate post.

I am blessed. Blessed to know the Creator of the universe. Blessed with a wonderful family. Blessed to live where I can worship freely. Blessed with good friends.

I came home with more than a souvenir. I came home with a full heart.

You sound very refreshed. Just as it should be after a vacation. And being away always makes home a bit sweeter.

I'm with you about all of it. The beach is nice to visit but ... And I prefer a small town to a big city. I like the country roads and the pretty trees and flowers and intimate kind of life. Knowing people, enjoying who they are. Yep, I agree with you on all of it.

Except the cat part. I am so very allergic to cats that I can't even allow myself to think about them. Achoo! See what I mean?

It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation.

I agree it is fun to get away to those places, but I'm ever so grateful to be back home. I like to visit the city to but I like to live in my small town too.

I'm glad you're back, and that you came refreshed from your vacation! Whenever I come back from spending a few days away from home, I always notice a few small additional blessings I somehow missed before. As if stepping back for a while gives you a better perspective! So wonderful.

Thank you for sharing your "full heart" Tracy. You are one special woman and I'm always so blessed to hear about your life, what God is teaching you, and how you are being used by Him. Especially in your home!

And, I always miss my dog when we go on trips. Ha!
