Show and Tell Friday: My hydrangea

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday hosted by Kelli.

While most of us are enjoying the beautiful autumn leaves, and our flower beds are very dead looking, I'm enjoying my endless summer hydrangea for the third year in a row. Too bad this plant doesn't live up to its name. It stays bare of blooms all summer, and blooms in October. I dread the frost, for the beautiful blossoms turn black overnight.
But for now, it's gorgeous!

That's a gorgeous blue hydrangea, Tracy! I have one too but it's *very* small at this point. The others I have are pink and purple. I cut the blooms and put them in a jar w/o water. They've dried to a muted lavendar and will be used in a gift I'm planning for Christmas. For now though, the dried blooms decorate my home. Keep an eye on the weather and maybe clip the blooms (with about 10 inches of stem) before the frost hits overnight. Then they'll be everlasting hydrangea blooms. :o)

Have a lovely day...

My hydrangea is just finishing up. The blooms on yours are lovely and must add a wonderful touch of color to your garden!

Oh so pretty! I don't think hydrangeas grow here in Colorado because it is too dry. I sure wish they did, though, because they are beautiful. I have heard that the blue ones are the hardest ones to grow.

Hydrangeas are my favorite flower in the whole world. I have several bushes that are such a vibrant fusia color. I guess we don't get blue here in central FL.

Yours are so lovely. I hope you can enjoy them for a bit longer.

And I am glad to know the opinion on the Endless Summer because I have thought about spending the money for them.

I DO dry mine, and have them for longer than summer :) There is a thought.

Hydrangeas are some of the prettiest "country" flowers to me. They just remind me of grandma's farmhouse.
Yours are a lovely blue shade.

Gorgeous! Mine are looking a little pale and worn. Although it is still warm here, summer is over.

They are beautiful!!

We had some at our old house and they did the same thing-bloomed right before the frost and then died!

I heard that burying pennies in the soil at their roots helps them bloom quicker and last longer. It may be an old wives tale...I never tried it.

Very pretty!! Mine got nipped by a late spring freeze and did not bloom this year. :-(

I think - although I am not sure - that hydrangea's are my favorite flower. There is a bit of a debate within me as to that flower or the tiger lily. I loved your flowers. What beauty God has given us to enjoy!

Thanks for sharing,

Your hydrangea as well as your photographs are beautiful. Three years ago, I bought two small hydrangeas at a street stall for $2 each. They finished up in large pots and this year I have transplanted them into the ground where they are taking off. No flowers yet. (I am in the Southern Hemisphere). This year I have bought two tiny hydrangeas for $1 each at a charity sale and have planted them straight in the ground. I hope and pray they will zoom ahead.

Blessings and bliss

what a beautiful autumn treat :o)
my Granny has blue and pink hydrangeas in the summer.. get this... from the SAME plant! It's the neatest thing :o) I guess there must be really diverse soil there, both with more acidity and less.

I just made your Apple Fritters!!!!!
YUMMY! I agree, I like the powdered sugar on them the best. It makes them similar to funnel cake with an apple treat.

Thanks for the recipe. I know my husband is going to LOVE it too!

I made a 1/2 batch. I realized that I really didn't think I could make enough fritters for 50 men (at church) tonight. So, Rich and I get the treat all to ourselves :o)

I absolutely love hydrangeas! I might have told you, but at my old house my hydrangea bush was probably 10 feet across and about 5 feet high. Sadly, I had to leave it. It is the ONLY thing I miss about that place.

I want to plant one here, but it has been so dry! Yours is so lovely - makes me want one even more.

I am glad to see that somebody else is posting about gardening on S&T!

I love hydrangeas (did you see the heart I made on my blog?) and heart about that endless summer variety many many times. So far, I just have pink ones in the garden. Do you add that special powder so that it keeps its blue colour?

Best wishes from Germany and happy gardening!
