Soap Making

I made my first batch of cold-process soap today. I've been reading, and reading, and reading some more, and I finally jumped in the pool. I measured, and re-measured to make sure that everything was just right. I shooed everyone away so as not to be near the lye. I melted, mixed, and stirred. I guessed at the "trace" but I'm pretty sure that I got it right. The hard part is being patient for four weeks to see how I like this recipe!

How exciting Tracy!
I love soapmaking but be warned that it's very addicting and expensive!
I sure have missed you!
Wishing you a blessed week ahead!

Wow! I cannot wait to see how these turn out :o) I know you are so excited!

Will you have pictures of the process once they are done? I'd love to see them!

the soap takes four weeks to set? wow, if so. that's four too many weeks between baths. ;o)

signed,
the ignernt one

seriously though - this seems like *such* a process and i'm impressed that you've taken it on! i'll be interested to hear your thoughts as time goes on.

my great grandmother and great aunt used to make their own soap. i was a wee girl so only remember bits and pieces.

Hmmm. I've pondered doing this for a while, too. Let us know how you like the finished product.

Tracy~ I have been super busy this weekend with all that has been happening so I wasn't able to comment on all the great posts you've been having like I would have liked to. Here is my sorry excuse for a substitute...

Your house is LOVELY as is the photo of it-Christmas lights are a challenging thing to capture!

Peanut Brittle is SOOO good and it looks SIMPLY done the way you shared! Thank you!

And now-SOAP!?!?! I am SO excited for you! I have wanted to make soap for years now...I keep putting it off BECAUSE of the lye and my little shadows, but someday I would LOVE to get to create lovely handmade soaps! Great JOB Tracy!

I, too, have always wanted to make soap but I'm afraid of the lye. You'll have to let us know how it turns out, pictures included. Also, how long did the actual "making" process take you?

Good for you! I can't wait to hear how it all turned out. Like a few of the others, I've always wanted to try this but hesitate with the little ones about. Of course, my grandmothers both made it, and they had *lots* of wee ones underfoot! I just need to get brave.

Your peanut brittle in the previous post looks wonderful. I think the rounds are so cute!

And the picture of you and Abigail singing in the kitchen is so precious!
