Happy May Day!
It was a beautifully sunny day here today. There was a warm breeze blowing, and the birds were singing. Grandma enjoyed reading a book while sitting outside this afternoon. Abigail and I lovingly prepared a very economical, but festive meal.
On the menu:
I boiled chicken to make the chicken salad, and Grandma suggested that I keep the water, and throw in the leftover noodles from dinner the other night. As I was preparing the chicken salad, I sliced celery, but instead of discarding the tops I threw those into the pot as well. Abigail peeled and sliced four carrots for the soup, and we called it done. There was no chicken in the soup, but it was flavorful just the same.
We washed up our dishes from the preparations, and then went outside to pick a few flowers for the table. The pickings were slim, but we found enough to fill two interesting bottles, one for each end of the table. We placed a small votive candle into a pretty little dish that Abigail bought me from the thrift store, and set in in the center of the table.
We used our china tonight, and the entire table looked lovely! Abigail thought our special dinner should have a name, and called it the May Flower Dinner. Special indeed!

Your table and dinner look lovely. My mom has the same milk glass compote dish. She has a small one too the same shape and style....had them as long as I can remember.
I see Anna's inspired you, too! Love the apron with the embroidery. You do nice work, Tracy.
(also love your milkglass with the strawberries, and the table is lovely.)
In response to your question about the frosting, no I did not frost this one as I wanted to try it without it. I only made half a recipe for one layer. Gordon liked it so well, he's requested it for his birthday.....the WHOLE recipe. ;o)
How cute! "the May Flower Dinner" I love how you make the everyday so special for your family.
I can't wait for fresh strawberries! That photo had me drooling.....
