Garden Salad

Verne built a few raised bed gardens earlier this spring. Last year we had such a drought, and it was terribly hard to keep up with watering. His labors have proved successful!

I picked some spinach, radishes,

and some leaf lettuce.

The lettuce and spinach got a thorough rinsing and soaking in icy-cold water.
And we enjoyed a delicious accompaniment to our main dish!

Some people don't think so, but I think homegrown veggies are just downright beautiful! HOpefully, this will be my LAST year not having a garden...

Oh my goodness that is one good looking bed. This is our first garden in many years and in a new location with woods all over, so we were small to start. I'll expand this fall for sure. I grew my lettuce in pots. It did great, but I would have like a whole lot more.

I am not a huge salad fan. But recently I have been wondering that if it were garden grown, perhaps I would like it much better. So is homegrown lettuce vs. store bought comparable to the diffence between say homegrown vs. store bought tomatoes?

Rachel,
I'd definitely say that that's a good comparison. We love the homegrown lettuce.

Mindy Sue,
Lettuce and spinach are not difficult to grow, and like cooler weather. Based upon your geography, these might be the crops for you!
