Homecoming

Saturday ran high with emotion as we picked Mac up from his Governor's Scholar Program. He was thrilled to see us, but overcome with the fact that he had to say good-bye to the new friends that he had made over the past 5 weeks. Not to mention the fact that he was extremely sleep deprived!

He slept for about an hour on the drive home, and was welcomed by his siblings as he entered the house. We enjoyed a leisurely supper, and then I gave the boys haircuts that were long overdue. Mac was in bed by 8:16. He slept all night.

We've enjoyed hearing what he learned, and seeing how he has changed. He's developed new tastes in music and food. Looks like I'm making hummus soon!

As a parent, these five weeks have been a growing experience for me. My baby is growing up. He still needs me, and yet, I need to start allowing him to make decisions knowing that he'll fall on his face once in awhile. I need to step back, and allow him to become the man that God intends.

So glad to hear he's safely home.

I don't look forward to that time of letting go (and I can say that 'cause my oldest is only 6) but I'm sure it will be journey we can weather with God.

Dear Tracy;

I just picked up my 13 yr old son at bible camp this past saturday. It was, just like you said, a learning experience. We are a very close knit family and this was the first time he was away from home. We don't do sleep overs. I liked what you said, I must step back and let him grow into the man the Lord intends him to be.

Thank you for sharing.

. . . all the while offering up that soft place for him to fall.

Hummus. Oh, yum! There are a number of herbs and oils to change the taste. I especially like Mediterranean Hummus.

Tracy, you are such a godly and wonderful mother... I pray that when my children are older, I will have the wisdom to step back too; letting them become the people God has called them to be.

Sounds like Mac is about to pass on some of that education on food LOL.

I'm glad he's home safely and that you'll all enjoying catching up again.

It's a fine balance, the letting go process. I know we're just at the beginning stages of it and with Miss Sunshine nothing seems to come easily. Thanks for the reminder though. I'm going to need it often for the next ohhh....say, 10 years LOL.

I can imagine how happy you all are to have him home! For him, it must have been an amazing experience :o)

Your comments on the balance between being there for him and letting him *fall on his face sometimes* is refreshing and from experience, I know it can also be difficult but needful for our Christian children's spiritual development.

Blessings,
Dallas
