Never Say Never...
unless you like to eat crow.
Last year I had several of my children telling me how much they'd like an iPod. I went on and on about the mere name. iPod.
"Sounds kinda selfish dontcha think? I mean really. You don't hear them calling them sharePods, do you? Why do you think that is? "
"I hate seeing people walk around with earphones in, totally oblivious to the rest of the world. I think it's rude!"
"No one will own one of those things while living in my house!"
And then, several months ago I began thinking how my under-the-counter CD player/radio was sounding really bad. And I often had to wrangle the CD's from the kids, and how they leave them laying on the counter, and how easily they scratch. I mentioned to Mac that maybe I did want an iPod.
"Mom! You DO NOT need an iPod! If you want to buy songs from iTunes, I'll burn them to a CD for you. " He was appalled that I'd even brought it up.
And then, on Christmas, after everyone else was done opening gifts, Verne surprised me. Not only with an iPod, but a docking station as well.
Just for the record, I've never used the earphones. And I don't ever intend to.

So, it has speakers and everything? I'm so incredibly ignorant - and I like me that way. hehe ;o)
Jane,
The iPod must be used with headphones OR a docking station. There are no speakers in it.
I just have a really small one, that doesn't offer playlists - but I love all the variety and it's small size. I use it when I walk on the treadmill or outside. But, I've always used a cassette player with headphones or a cd player...so I don't see the difference. I certainly take my headphones off when I intend to talk to someone. But, I use my for praise and worship, mostly, I'm in my own little world with it - and I like it that way!!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
You do realize you'll use the earphones at some point, right? I mean, you said, never say never, didn't you?!?!?! ;-D
Leigh Ann,
Yea! :0) I ALMOST ending my post by saying never say never about the earphones. What bugs me is how people are shopping, etc. with the earphones in. I've seen people go through checkout lines and such without ever acknowledging the cashier. By the way, I feel the same way about cell phone use in public places. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but for the most part I think it's tacky.
Too funny, Tracy! I have one too, but I don't know how to use it. With both of my girls out of the house I have no one to ask. This weekend I hope to get to figuring it out!
My husband and I were looking for something new and inexpensive to play music on and everywhere we went all we saw were ipods and they are not inexpensive. I must admit that I know *NOTHING* about them. Do you have to buy the songs? Where do you get them?
Come to think of it, I know very little about the new technology. I think I'm getting old....
Randi,
Mac taught me how to use mine!
Michele,
You CAN buy music for them, but you can also download your CD's onto them. I did alot of that,(actually Mac did and taught me how) and Mac bought me a few songs for Christmas.
The docking station that Verne bought me is a Sony, and the sound is incredible, even from several rooms away.
*wink* i knew that.
not.
i'm impressed with your ipod thingy, tracy. i use a 'ghetto blaster' that takes up too much space but i can move it from room to room. i listen to cd's as well as talk radio and a few of my favorite pastors. does the ipod thingy do radio? told you i was ignorant.
Jane,
The iPod itself doesn't have a radio, but my docking station does. I need my talk radio, too!
As far as the CD's, I've downloaded them all to my iPod. No more getting CD's out and having to put them away!
[Not sure if I have commented before... if not sorry] I agree... I have the same feelings. Glad to see you are enjoying your ipod! What a great reason due to kids scratching or misplacing cd's. and it plays in the vehicle as well? Cool. :) I love reading about your family and esp the courtship. Learning lessons for our future. Thanks!
I have a little tiny mp3 that I love. I use it when I'm walking on the treadmill (with headphones) and I load childrens audio books onto it to take in our van when my little girls and I are out running errands. I also have some children's praise music loaded onto it for those short trips when we don't want to start a book. It's soooo much easier than toting around a case full of CD's. And you're right-those CD's get scratched pretty easily with children around.
I have been hinting that I'd love to upgrade to an iPod-I hadn't really cared until my sister came to visit this summer and she had her's with her and I loved it. Plus, like you, I can see the benefit of having a docking station in the kitchen-that would be really nice.
Maybe for my birthday or anniversary.....
I sure hope you're enjoying yours!
Never say never . . . . .
