Psalm 1 (ESV)

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so,
But are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Dear Tracy,
this Psalm says it all! It's the perfect guide for a life according to God's will. The more I read it, the more I am convinced of it's eternal truth.

I read the Psalm slowly, to savor each word and memorize them to my heart. Thank you for sharing this, Tracy. :o)

Have you ever heard Margret Ashmore? She is on staff @ Denton Bible Church and also travels the country as a speaker. She was the guest speaker at our Womens retreat several years ago and spoke all weekend on this psalm. It was truly awesome. God IS so awesome.

Thanks for bringing that back to my mind and my heart.

Tracy ~ I am much enjoying your series of delighting and meditating on God's Law. It's very peaceful to come here and read the scriptures with the beautiful spring pictures.

I love this Psalm. It has such beautiful imagery of the righteous deeply planted in God's Word.

I've always thought the downward progression of mixing with the ungodly shown in this passage is interesting, too. A man can start out just passing through only half-listening to the chatter of the ungodly, but eventually he'll stand still and begin to really mingle. And before he knows it ... he's settled in and is not just listening but taking part in mocking God's Law.

How much better to be planted by the Rivers of Water!
