Music Lessons
Three of the four children started music lessons today. Oh, the sounds coming from the living room...
Autumn is
playing the
cello. I love
its deep
sound!
Collin is playing the viola.
Abigail
is playing
the violin.
Soon we'll have our own orchestra. Mac tried them all, and is already picking songs out on each, although he sounds very squeaky. Then he tried to tune Abigail's violin, and broke a string. Oh dear! My nerves are shot and it is only the first day!

Stringed instruments are my favorite, specifically 12-string guitar and cello. I'm sure the music in your home is a delight!
Oh what fun! I play the flute, and it's been one of the greatest joys in my life ~ God has allowed music to open up so many doors, and form wonderful life long friendships.
I would love to have an up and coming orchestra in my home! My husband plays the trombone ~ the flute and trombone just don't fly together well as a duet on 99.9% of songs! :o)

Oh my, how fun! Grace really wants to learn how to play the violin but we were told that she needs two years of piano. Has this been your experience too?

I fell your pain! We had a drummer in our family. But it will be lovely when they get the hang of it. They can play weddings!!!

This particular teacher did not make the children have piano first. My pastor's wife teaches, too. I do not believe that she follows that rule either.
My one regret is that I never took up a musical instrument - perhaps now that I have more time I may do so.
It would be lovely to hear your children playing.

How wonderful! My son used to play the trumpet and my daughter the clarinet. Unfortunately our homeschool band kept getting different directors and the both gave up. I hope when we move they will try again. I am sure very soon you will have wonderful sounds.
No, I do not think that 2 years of piano is necessary before violin. Obviously, it does help with notereading and thus visualizing the whole and half steps.
Tracy, now all you need is for either you, Mac, or Vern to also play the violin and then you will have an in-house quartet!!!!!!
