HAVE YOU SEEN THIS FACE?

Grumpy
If you have seen me today, or over the past week, then probably so. I feel very out of sorts.

Verne's mom, aunt, and grandma were here at the beginning of the week. They arrived on Sunday, and left Tuesday late in the morning. Now, usually I LOVE to have company, but Murphy's Law has been following me around.

Monday was going to be a busy day. Verne asked me to bake a coffee cake for him to take to a customer. I was also going to bake two coffee cakes for breakfast for the rest of the family. I thought that I was doing well when I woke at 6AM. Wrong. I got out three bowls, and started to measure dry ingredients. I was measuring all of the flour, then added baking powder, sugar, salt, etc. You get the picture. All of a sudden, I realized that the recipe called for two cups of flour, and I had used three. So, I had to go back and add half again of all of the other ingredients. By this time, Verne was trying to hurry me along, because he really needed to get to work, and his grandma was sitting in the kitchen waiting patiently for breakfast. Ugh...

I baked Verne's cake first, and got him out the door. I put the other two cakes in the oven, and went to get in the shower. When I returned, I noticed very tiny black ants marching in a straight line across the kitchen floor. They were headed straight for Daisy's dog food. Their trail ran straight through my kitchen cabinets. I was not a happy woman. I am a clean freak, and of all days for this to happen it had to be when we had company, right? So, I proceeded to empty my cupboards with the help of Aunt Debbie. She tried to console me by telling me of the countless times that she has had to deal with these very same creatures. So, I emptied FOUR large cabinets, washed them out, (they weren't even dirty!) and sprayed.

Thankfully we were going to the restaurant where Mac works for lunch. I quickly stuck two chickens to bake in the oven before we walked out the door. As we arrived at the restaurant, we noticed that Verne's mom was not behind us as she should have been. Mac, Autumn, Grandma, and I took the only empty table. After a few minutes I began to get worried and set out to search for the rest of the crew. Just as I reached the van my cell phone rang. It was Verne's mom. Her tire had come loose, and she had to pull over in the local park. I told her that I would be right there. I made tracks as quickly as I could, and found the stranded motorists, only to find that my mother in law had locked her purse and keys in the car when they went to wait for me at a picnic table by the road.

I called Verne and told him that he would have to come to fix the tire. And by the way, the car was locked. I felt bad for him because he was at work. Patty(my mother in law), Aunt Debbie, Verne's grandma, Collin, and Abigail piled into the van, and off to the restaurant we went. It was packed. No one was eating. Mac felt bad because he works full time during the summer, and jumped behind the counter to help. About an hour later we all got to eat. Verne arrived at the restaurant, with his mom's van. All fixed. Oh, how I love being married to someone handy!

I wanted nothing more than to go home and visit peacefully with my company, but I needed to run to the store to buy ant spray. And Mac's friend needed a ride to his grandma's. Both of his parents work. So, we ran Keith and went to Walmart as the relatives and my grandma headed back to our house.

Upon arriving home, I still had to prepare supper. Chicken and dumplings. Remember the chickens I had put in the oven? Autumn and I sat and picked them clean. The evening was a bit more calm, but I was so ready for bed by the end of the day!

The next morning I woke feeling a headache coming on. Breakfast was served. Company left. I had to take Mac to work. The headache persevered.

Wednesday came and Verne was out of town. More running around. Mac to work. Errands for Verne. Pick Mac up. Mac was closing the restaurant, but left his key at home. He called Autumn, but she couldn't find it. It was a long week, and I wanted to go home, but we couldn't leave the restaurant unlocked. Mac finally got a hold of one owner on the phone. I had to run across town to pick up a key. I made Mac buy us dinner.

Thursday, more errands for Verne. Take Mac to work. Pick him back up five hours earlier than usual because he had worked so much lately. They wanted him to have a break. The internet was out and I couldn't communicate with the outside world.

Friday I let Mac drive into work as usual. He didn't do so well. The headache is still there. Turning to a migraine. I came home and slept.

The tub is clogged and draining slowly. Daisy pooped in the house several times over the past few days. I made supper for our pastor's family, only to have them not be home when we arrived. And I wonder, why don't I feel more like Snow White? By the way, I saw more ants in the kitchen tonight.

The bright side? Verne unclogged the drain and I got to talk to Leigh Ann for over an hour today! She is delightful! I hope she didn't hear my grumpiness.

Found you from Momma Roar. :) And my I say - Wow! what a day you had! Wish I could say I have never been there! Isn't it funny (not really!) how all that little stuff can make you so grouchy and how it all seems to be on the same day??

Here's hoping tomorrow is better!

(((((tracy)))))

bless your hardt. we've all been there and know the sting of these experiences. rest now...please.

btw, my way of cleaning ant trails is to do as you've been doing. my dear hubbies way is putting ant stakes in key spots, letting the ants feast (which means gazillions of ants in my home) then die. ugh.

It sure sounds like you had quite a lot of pressure on your shoulders, Tracy! I hope you can recover now and have some peace and quiet.

Oh Tracy - I'm 'hearing' you say this post to me! I did not pick up on any grumpiness and I hope that my ability to be 'long-winded' is not the reason your meal was not enjoyed by the family.

I do hope you have a better week.

Also wanted to say that your bloggy buttons looks wonderful - and I love what you put! hee hee :D

Leigh Ann,
Isn't it great to KNOW what each other sound like? So cool. I'm glad that you couldn't tell that I was grumpy!

No, you weren't the reason my dinner wasn't enjoyed. I was there by 5:15, and when the house was empty I started wondering if they thought that I wasn't coming and went out. I finally got a hold of them on the cell phone, and discovered that they were at a birthday party. They didn't know I was coming with dinner. OOPS! Well, they heated it for lunch today!

I think my comment got lost in cyberspace! So if it did, just want to say again that I'm so sorry to hear you've had a rough week Tracy. Must be hard on you. I know a little of what you feel, having all my mishaps and bad circumstances happening at once yesterday! Rest in the Lord, He is your strength and your rock :) Blessings to you!

Oh, Tracy. That could have gone better. But here is my thought. That headache ... it was earned. Almost a gift really. It means you should go to your room with a cup of tea and a good book, and rest. When you are done resting, go to sleep. When you are done sleeping get some more tea. Let everyone else take care of you for awhile.
