A New Blouse
This is what I'm wearing today. I like it, but the next time I 'm going to make the sleeves longer, and taper the bottom in. I need the larger size through the bust, but it's a bit full through the hips for me. I think the shorter sleeve accentuates the fullness of the bust, and the longer sleeve would be a bit more becoming on me.

I'm sewing this week too - I forget if I did tell you that I bought a sundress/short set pattern for Elle - so far so good!
The blouse looks great. The pink is a nice, soft color. I am also loving this new green background. Green is my newest color addiction. It seems that everything I like is some shade of green!

I took home ec in middle school, and then my dad bought me a sewing machine. I didn't sew for years. After I was married I made myself a few simple maternity dresses. Again, I didn't sew for years. I have just recently taken a huge interest in this craft, and I'm learning as I go!
I think it turned out very nicely, but do understand about the sleeves. I prefer my sleeves to be just above the elbow because I have had a skin condition on my upper arms for most of my life and prefer to keep that covered.
You are obviously a skilled seamstress-I haven't seen anything you've made yet that I didn't think was top notch. :-)

I am so envious of your ability to sew...I'd love to learn, but it seems so intimidating to me. I do have a machine. Maybe I'll have my mom teach me when she comes to visit next!

Tracy I think your blouse is lovely. I have not made clothes for myself in years but would like to start again, now that I will (hopefully) have more time in retirement.
I have been busy at my sewing machine though. I do lots and lots of crafts and household decor. today I made new curtains for my bedroom.
I am ready to start quilting again. It has been about 25 years since I made a quilting project. I would like to do a lot of quilting, even some on the machine so that I can do more and go faster (baby quilts for moms to be, potholders, table runners, etc).
So I have a question for you. What kind of sewing machine do you have? I am wanting a new machine and would like to accomoadate the quilting perhaps, and even a bit of applique if possible. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but get something that will last me a long, long time (like forever) and do the jobs I want to do without more than I need. Any suggestions?
Oh, and as for "living with Grandma". I know the daily stuff is hard. But truthfully, it won't be forever. And then ... well ... you'll wish it back for a time I'm sure.
What she said to hurt your feelings was not said to hurt your feelings. She is an old lady who says what comes to mind just like a small child. The filter is gone, you know? It happens in old age. We might think something but filter it out and not say it.
She doesn't have a filter. Love her through it. She doesn't mean to hurt you.

I prefer the longer short sleeves (not quite 3/4 length)in my shirts/blouses, but they are so hard to find. I hope to make some this fall.
I'm sorry your feelings were hurt by the comment in your last post. I've been there, and it is hard to move past it. My grandmother was the worst for saying whatever popped into her head.

Tracy, thanks for the info on your sewing machine. Seems our machines are probably sisters. I have a Kenmore also. Mine is 27 years old, but ahem, I got mine as a wedding gift from my mom, not as a present after 7th grade home ec. Good grief. I AM old.
I am happy as can be with how it works and of course with how well it has held up. But I just want more versatility. I think I will throw this out on a post and see what everyone else has to say. The ladies in blogville always have such great advice and creative ideas.

The Lord blessed you with talent! I wish my "sewing-bug" would bite...I have a stack of fabric...and a "need" to get a couple of dust ruffles for beds made...but can't seem to "get it in there and get it done!" (As my mother says)
