An Incredible Date

My husband Verne has been working alot lately. He normally puts in about a 70 hour work week, but that changes in the fall. He is a state certified referee for football, and usually calls about 4 games a week on top of his normal workload. He loves football, so I'm thrilled that he can get out there and do something that he enjoys. Last week, he spent extra time away from home helping one of his accounts move their business across town. He was gone all day on Saturday. When he arrived home late that evening, he told me that he was going to take Wednesday off and spend the day with me. I was very surprised, and pleased.

It seems like lately, we're constantly running, and even having time to sit down to a relaxed dinner is a rarity. Things will slow down in about 2 months, but it sure is hectic for now. A whole day together? A dream come true. You see, my love language is quality time. Verne knows this well, and makes sure that my needs are met.

I expected a relaxing day at home, but he had other plans. We slept in, which is a rare treat for Verne. He had planned a day alone, with just ME. We left the house around 9:30, and headed west. Verne took me to several antique stores, which we both love. It was wonderful milling around, Verne's arm around my waist, hunting for treasures. No rushing or worrying about children near breakables. We took our sweet time. As a matter of fact, the lunch hour completely passed us by. We did get hungry around 1:30, and headed for a restaurant where we enjoyed each other's company.

Verne then took me to a mall that I had never been to, and sweetly showed me stores where he and the children have purchased Christmas gifts for me in the past. He pointed out a small sign that we bought. Who could resist that? We even went into a Bath and Body Works where he smelled everything in the store, and commented about what he liked and didn't like. I was amazed.

Our last stop was a local coffee shop that Verne frequents quite often. He's brought me tokens home from there at different times. Chocolate covered espresso beans, teapots, etc. This time, I got to order for myself. A sugar free hazelnut iced coffee with heavy cream. OH MY! What I've been making at home is lousy comparatively!

I came home with another teapot, and some of the hazelnut syrup that they use. Yum!!! Now I'm really in business.

Treasures from our day: antique boxes from a sewing table, perfect for my new sewing area; the sign that Verne picked; a beautiful new (old) teacup and saucer, a periwinkle teapot and warmer, and yummy sugar free hazelnut syrup.

Abigail took the picture above before we left for the day, and this one when we got home. It's so sweet to see the excitement in our children when we get to have a date.

Verne certainly showered me with attention, and had the perfect day planned. I hated to kiss him good-bye this morning!

What a wonderful day and date with your sweetie-pie! The two of you are so adorable together - love the pictures!

Isn't it great how our marriages are an example for our children? We actually enjoy being with our hubbies, and it's reciprocated. :o)

On my way to my sisters soon...results of the drawing are up.

Blessings to you, dear friend...

Ah, Tracy ~ It looks like you had a wonderful time. My hubby works 100 hours a week (give or take an hour ~ lol), so I really do understand to time constraints on your family. Our Sundays are very precious for our family. I'm so glad you and your hubby got to have such a lovely day out. :o)

WooHoo!!! What a great hubby you have! I'm so glad you had a wonderful time together, and by the looks of it, a great shopping trip, too.
I remember those 70 hour work weeks. We tried to plan around them, but it is not easy. Family time just has to happen when it can. Hopefully things will slow down for all of you very soon.

What an incredible DAY you got to have with your sweetheart! We're lucky if we get an hour together. We, too, are in the midst of 80 hour work weeks.

I love that little sign you got. It is too sweet.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your day. And, oh, to have a husband that actually enjoyed antiques stores??!! That is a luxury.

What a wonderful date. How fun was that.
Very sweet of him to take the day off and spend the day shopping with you and going out to eat.
Looks like you had a great time together.
Oh if we could only find more time to do that.
I hear ya. My husband is so busy right now with coaching and teaching and then me working some nights and weekends it is hard to get time together.

Taking time for togetherness is soooo important. I think we need to slow down and weed out lots of things--our culture is too fast paced and we get overco mmitted.I strive for the more simple life especially with my family; enjoying walks and a cuppa with the family and literally smelling the roses! But it is a constant battle--When my husband found he had cancer last year it really showed us what things are important and what things really are not.

I am so glad that you had such fun. My love language is also quality time. One year the butler wanted to buy me a nice ring for Christmas. The best part of the present was that we spent a whole day together (both of us taking off work) to shop for it all over town. That is a special memory every time I look at that ring.

And ya know, there is nothing better a father or mother can give their kids than to love their spouse. It gives then security, faith, and teaches them how to have a healthy marriage. Congrats to Verne (and you!) for seeing that.

And ... thanks for letting us come along :)

Oh, about my cacuts. I can tell it is going to bloom just by how the buds look. The day they are going to bloom they get very fat and curl up towards the sun. Then when dusk fall, they start. It is truly amazing.

That is awesome y'all were able to have a date night all to yourselves! :) I know a couple that sets aside Thursday nights every week as their date night and the kids know that that is mommy & daddy's night to be together. More couples need to have date nights. :)
