Mending Memories

I own a slew of afghans. Some were made by my maternal great grandmother, and some by my dad's mom. About two years ago, we traveled to Pennsylvania to visit family. Upon visiting my grandma, she offered me this granny-square afghan that she had made using scraps of yarn. I gratefully accepted it. This is the smallest afghan that I have from her. It's a nice throw size.

As Grandma's mind was failing with Alzheimer's, so were her hands. One granny square in particular was coming undone. Yesterday afternoon, I relaxed on the couch surrounded by my family, and covered with this afghan made by my grandma who passed away just two weeks ago. I took up my crochet hook, and fixed the square that was unraveling. Six months ago, I would have had no idea how to do such a thing. I'm happy that a little of Grandma lives on through me, her only granddaughter.

Psalm 103:17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children

This is so sweet, Tracy.

Many of things I do are because of my grandmas too. They are/were great women!

This is beautful Tracy and so is knowing that some of your Grandma and her special gifts have been passed onto you :-)

I sympathize with you and your family in your recent loss.

Blessings,

What a precious gift to have to remind you of her.

I have taken up knitting in the past year (I've nearly finished a cardigan) because I wanted that connection to my grandmother who can no longer knit. And my Mum, who knits less frequently. I wanted to be proficient enough to continue the skill in our family, before I no longer had the help at hand. I'm glad I started now. Mum has lots of time to teach me yet!

A treasure worth more than all the money in the world.

It's so good to be settled and back visiting everyone. :-)

Now as for those tourists..... we'll see hundreds of thousands here, but it's better to be here than there. I'm really glad to be back home in VA.

I love the Afghan, Tracy. The colors are so bright and inviting.

I'm glad that you had this to remind you of your grandmother and that you can pass on what you learned from her.
