A Hard Day
Yesterday afternoon I left a piece of my heart on a university campus too many miles from our home. Mac was accepted into a Governor's Scholar program for the summer. This was a great honor for him. He'll spend the next five weeks taking classes, sleeping in a shared dilapidated dorm room, and eating cafeteria food. Oh, but I'm sure he'll have a great time.
We can visit once.
He called last night, and though the connection was poor, I could hear the excitement in his voice. He'd had to slip into the hall because his room was full of other students who had gathered to listen to music. I could hear the voices behind him, laughing as though they had know each other for much longer than a few hours. He told me of several young men he'd met. One from a previous Boy Scout troop in a different part of the state. He mentioned a few girls, too. "Good news, Mom! There are two girls in my group that are home schooled!"
Five weeks.
I'm thirty seven years old. I've never been away from home for more than a few days without being with someone that I'm related to.
Psalm 32:6-11
- Therefore , let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found ; Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
- You are my hiding place ; You preserve me from trouble ; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
- I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go ; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
- Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, Whose trappings and bridle to hold them in check, Otherwise they will not come near to you.
- Many are the sorrows of the wicked, But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him.
- Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones ; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.

praying for your entire family this morning :)
I know how you'll miss him but what an amazing opportunity for him :o)
Have a wonderful week Tracy!
Oh Tracy, it must be so hard!
In a few weeks I will be putting Haylie on a plane to Costa Rica for a week...
I know it's not the same as 5 weeks but it's just sooo far away and a foreign country...
I will be praying for Mac and you too! Ü
Wow, five weeks is a long time. I know it's hard for you, Tracy, but Mac sounds like such an amazing boy, I'm sure this will be a great experience for him! I think these kind of things are always harder for us moms. I'll be keeping you all in my prayers!

How exciting for Mac!--but understandably sad for you. I pray the Lord will comfort your heart while your beloved son is away from home.

My heart is hugging yours, Tracy. You've experienced much this year concerning your children growing up and becoming more independent. It isn't easy. At. All. I know.
Be reminded that our precious Lord has Mac in His firm grasp along with a hedge of protection that is set in place by Him, the King of Kings.
Also know that that same grasp is on you, dear friend. He will meet you where you are and fill the need and longing in your heart to overflowing, at the right time.
Further, please know I'm lifting you and yours up in prayer. <><
It WILL be all right. He'll do a lot of growing and the time will pass quickly.
Hope everything goes well for your son and for you!☺
Oh Tracy, I know what you mean and how you feel! I am sure the time will pass quickly... stay busy!

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
I bet he will have a fun time thought if he sounded so excited on the phone.
I'm sure it would be a very hard thing for me to do to leave my child for 5 weeks.
(of coarse mine are still only 6 and almost 10)
I have a hard time just leaving mine for overnight.
HOpe you are having a great summer.
Stop by my blog if you get a chance. I've finally posted. I hope to be back around blogging more.
I hear you, girl. This is the first year my son has not been home for the summer. I miss him like crazy! Your son is making lifetime memories!!!
I can't even begin to imagine my babies leaving for 5 weeks! But then isn't it funny how they go back to being 'my babies' when they go and grow up on us?!
I hope he has the thrill of a lifetime doing these classes. And I hope you are indeed upheld with God's Word and our prayers.
I know you must be so proud! I'll add this to my prayers, as well.
Oh, Tracy my heart aches for you because I know how hard that must be!!! My children are still small and I already cry and worry about them growing up.
I am sure he will have a great time and I hope the weeks will fly for you!!!
I went to Governor's School eons ago. Loved it and still keep up sort of with one of my friends there! It was so nice to be in a place where the smarter you were the "cooler" you were. :)
Know you will miss him!! Hope it is not too, too much. :)
Oh your post makes my heart ache as it reminded me of how homesick I was when I first went to college. You'll be in my prayers. Just think of how great the reunion will be :o)
((Tracy)) ~ Praying this time passes quickly for you. Will be praying for Mac, too.
