Hard Lessons

Mac bought a brand new digital camera before heading to his summer program. He'd earned the money from work, researched what brand to buy, what features he wanted, etc. He spent the week he was laying around after the removal of his wisdom teeth learning how to use it well.
And then yesterday I received this email from him:

Subject line: umm...

umm...i dropped my camera this morning. it still turns on, the screen is fine, i can still look at all the pics i've taken, i can still take pictures...but they're completely black. and i can't see anything on the screen when i'm trying to take a picture. so i talked to my teacher about it. she doesn't really know if it's something that will be easy to fix. but i guess we should try to find somewhere in xxxx that will do it so we can take it on family day. Bryan Xxxx said that we should be able to find someone open on Sunday. I mean if we can't get it fixed, i can borrow one from GSP, but that's another thing i'm responsible for, plus i mean i want to take alot of pics while i'm here because this is something i'd like to remember. so i don't know. i'll call tonight and we can talk about it some then, but i don't want to send the camera back to kodak because it'd take forever and it won't be covered by warranty anyways. i just went to pick it up and it fell out of my hands and then it didn't work anymore. after hitting a carpeted floor...ugh. but if it takes a few days to get it repaired, someone like the Xxxx can pick it up for me and drop it off at the office. so i just thought i'd let you know. talk to you tonight.

your irresponsible son,
mac

Poor Mac. I have to admit though, how he signed off gave me a smile.

Hopefully it'll be a smooth and easy fix.

As to seeing him on Family Day, I'm sure you're looking *so* forward!

Oh..poor Mac, I hope he's able to get it fixed easily. Honestly I don't really see it as irresponsible because accidents do happen. I think the way he's trying to handle it shows that he is *quite responsible*. (o:

Hopefully something can be done to *rescue* his new camera :o)

Oh, bless his heart! That's surely a hard lesson.
Christie and Jason dropped theirs on vacation, and the same thing happened.
I hope it can be repaired quickly for him.

Oh No! I bet he is just kicking himself...poor guy. Still it happens to the most careful of folk, and I am fairly certain there's no way he would've done it deliberately!!!!!

I hope it is easily fixed without taking too long.

Oh I hate it when things like that happen. We have lost several that way.

What a sweet son!

What a bummer! I do hope he is able to get it fixed (affordably!) or exchange it. It really is too bad seeing our kids being disappointed, but it does cause them to learn life lessons.

That undisclosed and highly sensitive location I spoke about..? VP Cheney is there too. I visit often to drink Root Beer and play checkers. Yep. Cheney's my checkers buddy, 'cept lately. :o/

Poor Mac!

Just stumbled by your blog and wanted to say hi!

Jenna's boyfriend did the same thing with her new camera. Unfortunately it costs almost as much to repair as it would to buy another camera. Her camera was worth $300+ and the repair was over $150. :(

I hope Mac turns out much better. So sad.

Oh, no! Poor guy. I can't recall how many times I've dropped my cell phone...luckily it's survived!

OH Poor Mac! His closing "irresponsible son" made me smile a wistful, sad sort of understanding that haven't we all, grown or just growing, mature or still maturing, done that sort of thing?

I sure hope he can get it fixed. I assume he has tried the ol' turn-it-off-and-turn-it-back-on trick. It usually works with the computer. But it is not a fix all for everything.

Does sound like his is having the time of his life though.
