Praying Mantis
This little guy visited our deck Saturday morning.
He was just as curious about me as I was about him. The closer I got, the more he responded.
When I zoomed in for a closer look and bent down next to him, he jumped right on top of my camera and that was the end of the photo shoot! Aren't God's creatures marvelous? Make sure to enlarge the pictures to see his beady little eyes.

Miss Mischief just turned around and saw this cute little guy. She loves cute bugs...not so much the nasty ones, but praying mantis's are cute, aren't they.
Yikes...you sure that isn't an alien? lol
They are amazing. Such detail and grace in these creatures.

They are fascinating creatures! We observed one for a few days some years ago...
what a close up ....and you are right about those beady eyes....
then I looked at his shape....and thought..I am glad he doesn't have to shop for clothes....

They are remarkably designed creatures! Love the pictures, Tracy. :o)
In response to Tracy's comment about Praying Mantis' being cute ... I had the misfortune of seeing a Mantis devour a grasshopper - alive. They're not so cute then...ew.

In a word.....blech. Don't like bugs, but you sure are brave.
He looks like he's posing for you!
Praying mantis are called "Louva-Deus" in Portuguese. Literally: "Praise-the-Lord".
Tracy,
I am enjoying your blog! You are very gifted w/ photography. Can't wait to show the children pics of this little guy. :)
Oh, and 2 of the children can now tie shoes. :)
Tracy,
I've been reading your blog for a long time and have never commented. I briefly got locked out of reading you and realized I had better introduce myself. Hi! I'm Shannon. I'm a Christian mom of 3. I love your blog. You and your family are an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing glimpses into your world with us.

I suppose I ought to de-lurk about now... I have been reading your blog for a while (I found it through domestic felicity).
You take such lovely pictures!
I love how God puts those reminders in our way at times of His marvelous creation! Thank you for taking the time to document and then share with us! Reminds me how fearfully and wonderfully WE are made!!!
