Music City, USA

A weekend trip to Nashville proved to be a hit with our family. We went with no agenda, thinking we would just wing it once we got there. Turns out it was a good plan. Having never been there before, we had no idea that our hotel was so close to the heart of everything until we arrived.

We decided to just walk around the area, and we weren't disappointed. We toured the Ryman Auditorium. The guys (including Verne) loved visiting the old record stores on Broadway St. We enjoyed hearing the music coming from every nook and cranny as we walked. During the day, we popped into a few places and had a longer listen to the entertainment.

We had a leisurely dinner, and walked again after dark. Mac was itching for some night life, so
the guys walked around again at midnight. Abigail and I were too tired, but enjoyed the view from our room.

We ended the weekend by arriving back home to a Black Forest Cake that Autumn made for my birthday.

I've never been to Nashville and after reading this post, deem it a good place to visit at a hopefully semi-soon someday. :o)

The cake is gorgeous!

Nashville is such a neat city! My Grandparents are both from mountainous Tennessee/NC areas and we love to hear their stories. Every time we go back East, we drive through Nashville. We love driving through the college area and seeing the huge southern houses. There's really a lot of character there.

Glad you got to get away for a special time with the family. I know how much your son loves guitar so this was a perfect visit for you guys.

Jason's been to Nashville a bunch for work. He has a ball every time he goes. Looks like you all had a great time, too.

And, Autumn's cake looks divine!

Oh, I wish you could have met my sister! She lives around Nashville - Franklin actually, and my brother in law is a producer of gospel music at EMI.
They would have loved to meet you!
Glad you had a good weekend.

Tracy!! you were in our old stompin' ground. :o) JR and I have actually stayed at that hotel for one of his yearly banquets ... it is beautiful. What a fun place to stay on a getaway. It is even attached to the downtown library (via the bridge and parking garage); yes - shh - we are that nerdy that the library is probably our favorite spot in all of downtown Nashville.

There is so much to do in Nashville; it's impossible to do it all in even a week long trip. I think you guys did a wise thing by just deciding what to do as the moments unfolded. Very spontaneous and fun!

We were actually up there on a day trip last month. One of these days ... our paths are going to cross. :o)
